The Sailfin/Algae is renowned for its distinctive appearance and captivating personality. Its mottled tan coloring with large eyes and a traditional body shape that belongs to the Blenniidae family, Salarias fasciatus adds visual appeal to any aquarium. However, despite its capacity to grow to a staggering 5" in size when it is placed in a home aquarium, the Salfin and Algae is still calm, active, and therefore enjoyable to watch. Also known by The Jewelled Rockskipper, Lawnmower, or Rock Blenny, the Sailfin/Algae Blenny is a native of the reefs of the Indo-Pacific. Similar to other Blennies, the Sailfin/Algae is able to rest on live rocks or hide in caves move across the substrate, and eat microalgae. It, therefore, requires more of a system, with an array of living rock as well as rockwork.   The Sailfin/Algae Blenny is calm with other marine fishes unless the tank mate has a similar appearance or shape to the Blenny. It is preferential to keep the Sailfin/Algae Blenny as a single unless placed in a larger tank as a mated pair. It is known to nibble at small-polyped coral and mantles of clams.   It is believed that the Sailfin/Algae Blenny does best in tanks that are well-established and have plenty of algae that they can consume.
