Kaudern's Cardinal Kaudern's Cardinal is highly sought for due to its easy cleaning, beautiful design and color, as well as its distinct, elegantly long fins. Its Kaudern's Card, called known as the Banggai Cardinalfish or Longfin Cardinalfish is a metallic silver fish accented by black-colored stripes and white stars on the fins and body. This striking design of the color pattern of Kaudern's Cardinal creates a visually impressive and memorable feature in most saltwater aquariums.   A 30 gallon or larger aquarium that has cave-like rocks and tranquil tank mates is perfect for this slow and deliberate swimmer. Because of its aggressive nature toward other species, the Kaudern's Cardinal must never be placed in huge numbers. This Kaudern's Cardinal is relatively easy to breed in an aquarium. Once spawning has taken place the males take eggs in his mouth to guard them against predators.   This saltwater fish needs to be fed a balanced diet that includes meaty food like feeder shrimp, bloodworms, marine flesh and, depending on the size live feeder fish.   Approximate Purchase Size: 1" to 1-1/2"

Kaudern's Cardinalfish Information Cardinalfish are nocturnal in nature and spend the most time in cooler areas of the aquarium. They will be out at night. They'll learn to adapt to the brighter, more lit aquarium as time passes. Cardinalfish are often seen in groups in the wild, but they can fight in groups within smaller aquariums. In other circumstances, they can be peacefully surrounded by other non-aggressive fish. Kaudern's Cardinalfish Diet Feed small, meaty meals frozen or finely chopped cooked foods. Cardinals consume small fishes as well as mobile crustaceans found in the wild. If your Cardinalfish seems to be not eating, feed it when the aquarium lights go out. A majority of Cardinalfish exhibit nocturnal habits and would prefer feeding after the lights are turned off inside the aquarium.

Helpful Questions From Clients
Frequently Asked Questions
Is hiring a professional necessary to set up a saltwater aquarium?

As a general rule, a larger custom aquarium might require installation by a professional. However, a kit from our online fish store is relatively affordable and beginner friendly. That means you should have no problem setting it up yourself.

Which saltwater aquarium fish should you choose when starting out?

Consider a yellow tang fish. This popular saltwater aquarium fish does a great job of coexisting with other types of fish you’ll find in our online fish store.

How does a saltwater aquarium differ from a freshwater one?

Saltwater aquariums require a bit more maintenance and monitoring than freshwater tanks. Different fish require different levels of salinity, pH tolerances, and temperature requirements. They also require specialized pumps, filters, and other equipment that can handle salt. We can guide you through everything you need to know to set up a healthy, thriving reef tank.

Do fish in a saltwater aquarium swim in a school?

That depends on the species. However, if it’s a fish that swims in a school in the wild, they’ll do the same in an aquarium. Some fish that swim in schools include the green and blue chromis, cardinalfish, and dartfish, for example. When ordering from an online fish store, make sure you do your research on how specific fish species behave to ensure they’ll school (or at least coexist) with your current fish.

Is the effort required to maintain a saltwater aquarium worth it?

Yes! Many aquarists dream of owning thriving saltwater aquariums. You have a tiny piece of the ocean in your home, featuring magical and exotic fish that can only survive in saltwater.
