Decorated Goby

The Decorated Goby is an ornate submerged goby that will enliven the lower parts of your aquarium by the daily routine of its activities. This Decorated Goby will actively roam the substrate looking for food and may even climb in the column of water in order to feed. The patterning is decorative and mottled to allow the Decorated Goby to blend effortlessly into the dark-colored sandy substrate. But, when contrasted against a lighter-colored substrate, it is easier to appreciate the rich patterns and colors of this beautiful sand-sifting sand goby. To be properly cared for, the Decorated Goby should be housed in an established 20-gallon or greater aquarium that has coarse coralline-encrusted rubble and live sand for the substrate. A well-populated refugium attached to the aquarium is crucial to ensure an ongoing source of live food that is suitable for the Decorated Goby. A properly sealed canopy must be included since it is capable of hopping out of the tank. It is non-aggressive towards other fish, however it can display territorial behavior and fight its own species, except if they are a mated pair. When it sifts through mouthfuls of the substrate, it feasts on the food items living in the sand. This natural food source is also beneficial in keeping the substrate oxygenated. This Decorated Goby feeds on a range of frozen and live saltwater shrimps, mysis shrimp live black worms, and prepared carnivore food items, and must be fed often.
