Five Lined Cardinalfish

Five Lined Cardinalfish, also called The Toothed Cardinalfish, comes from the lagoons, flats, and seaward reefs of Fiji. They have a long, slender form and are an iridescent silver color. The eyes large and black are separated by bright yellow and black spots near the tail that confuses potential predators as to which direction the fish is facing. A larger or 50-gallon aquarium that has a cave with calm tank mates is ideal for this methodical and slow swimmer. It is known to hide in sea grass and other plants, or employ the long-spined Urchins (Diadema setosum) to hide. If a 6-foot aquarium can be found, then it can manage a small group of this species. As an entire group, they'll create a strict hierarchy, without aggression. In the wild, the Five Lined Cardinalfish diet includes benth crustaceans and zoobenthos as well as diverse types of mobile invertebrates and tiny fishes. For your aquarium at home provide a balanced diet that includes meaty food like feeder shrimp, flake food, pellet foods, bloodworms, and depending on the size live feeder fish.
