The ornate leopard Wrasse also called the False Leopard Wrasse can be a gorgeous addition to your advanced or expert-only aquarists' display aquarium. Similar to other members of Genus Macropharyngodon these fishes require an extremely fine, sandy substrate since they burrow themselves at night to guard themselves. They require a well-established aquarium since they search for small crustaceans during the day. Leopard Wrasse is a difficult fish to adjust to an environment in captivity however, under the care of knowledgeable reef aquarists who can give these fish the appropriate conditions and care they can flourish and provide a spectacular display. It is best to introduce the Leopard Wrasse to the aquarium prior to when any bigger or active fish are introduced so they can have enough time to get used to and adjust to their new surroundings. They can also begin feeding on food prepared properly. If you want to maintain only a small number of these fishes, adding them to the display at the same time is the ideal way to go. As with other Labroids, these fishes are able to switch sex. For instance, the largest fish in the group could change into a completely functioning male. The diet of the Ornate leopard wrasse should consist of vitamin-rich mysis shrimp frozen and vitamin-enriched brine shrimp frozen in brine, and other meaty food items, in addition to an excellent marine flake and marine pellets.
