Horned Blenny Appearance and Rock-Hopping Behavior
Two branching horns above the eyes immediately set the Horned Blenny apart from other reef fish. Its mottled tan body blends into rockwork, allowing it to disappear into its surroundings when resting. Most of the time, it perches, then hops between rocks while grazing on natural algae. You’ll often find this species included in saltwater fish collections built around live rock and natural aquascapes.Horned Blenny Behavior and Tank Setup
The Horned Blenny stays peaceful in most community tanks but may become defensive toward fish with similar body shapes. Because of this, it works best as a single specimen unless housed in larger aquariums with ample space. It prefers aquariums with multiple rock layers, shaded areas, and natural grazing zones. This species spends most of its time near surfaces rather than swimming in open water. A secure lid is strongly recommended, as it can jump when startled. Within the blenny catalog, it behaves more like a rock grazer than an open swimmer, making it a strong fit for tanks with established surfaces and microalgae growth.Feeding and Grazing Habits
Natural algae plays a major role in its diet. In well-established tanks, it will constantly graze throughout the day. To maintain proper nutrition, supplement with spirulina, marine algae sheets, and herbivore-based prepared foods. Feeding smaller portions multiple times daily tends to produce better long-term results than single larger feedings.Horned Blenny Care Details
