Nitrate Reducer Pad

High aquarium nitrate levels can cause a variety of issues for your fish including increased stress, lower immunity, decreased ability to reproduce, and promotes algae growth. The JBJ Nitrate Reducer Pad will maintain safe nitrate levels in your aquarium or pond water, ultimately helping to increase your fish's life span. Like all our infused media pads, our long-lasting poly-fiber material is up to twice as thick and is much more rigid than competing pads, enabling them to fit tighter, hold their shape longer, filter more effectively, and last longer. These pads will: * Quickly reduce nitrates to safe levels * Promote beneficial bacteria colonies for a healthier aquatic environment * Effectively remove all organic particles, foreign debris, residual medications, excess food, and waste * Improve and maintain fish health

What are nitrates?

Nitrates (NO3) are a type of nitrogen dissolved that occurs naturally in the water column which is the water in your aquarium. The way nitrates are introduced into your aquarium is a journey. The nitrates in your aquarium are a byproduct of biological waste. Common sources of waste in aquariums are:
  • Uneaten fish food
  • Waste from fish
  • Plants that are dying
  • Filters that are dirty

What happens if the levels of nitrate are excessively high?

Excessive levels of nitrates can be harmful. The reason is that high levels of nitrates can put your fish under incredible stress. If your fish is stressed, these issues could occur... 1. More likely to contract an illness Have you ever been so stressed you got sick? This is similar to the way your fish is affected. Stress caused by higher levels of nitrate makes your fish more vulnerable to illnesses. 2. Poor growth Fish exposed to excessive levels of nitrates could be stunted in growth, which means they might not grow to their full size. 3. Poor color Fish that are under stress due to the high levels of nitrates don't show their natural color in the same way as they do under normal, healthy circumstances. It is possible that the color of your fish's skin may disappear.
