Seawater Refractometer by Red Sea Aquariums

High-Accuracy Seawater Refractometer
Red Seas Seawater Refractometer offers exceptional accuracy, for measuring the absolute salinity of seawater at a temperature of 25oC/77 0F.
Most refractometers used within the aquarium hobby are not specifically designed for reef aquariums and use an algorithm for the measurement of brine (NaCl rather than seawater) and at a temperature of 15oC/59 0F rather than 25oC/77 0F. Thus, a measurement deviation of up to 1.5ppt is possible, which can have a significant adverse effect on coral growth and coloration.- Description

Seawater Refractometer by Red Sea Aquariums
The Seawater Refractometer by Red Sea Aquariums provides precise and accurate salinity readings, designed specifically for seawater at 25°C/77°F. This refractometer eliminates the need for compensation factors and ensures reliability for marine aquarium enthusiasts.Key Features of the Red Sea Seawater Refractometer
- Accurate Salinity Measurement: Directly reads the absolute salinity of seawater at 25°C/77°F, providing accurate results without additional temperature adjustments.
- Designed for Seawater: Unlike standard refractometers calibrated for salt brine, this refractometer is designed to reflect the ionic content of seawater for more precise salinity readings.
- High-Resolution Display: The PPT scale is easier to read, offering greater resolution and clarity for salinity levels up to 40ppt.
- Integrated Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): Ensures accurate salinity measurement at varying ambient temperatures.
Why Calibration for Seawater Matters
- Precision for Marine Aquariums: The Red Sea Refractometer measures the salinity of seawater using an algorithm specifically designed for its unique ionic composition. This eliminates errors of up to 1.5ppt commonly found with brine-calibrated refractometers.
- Direct Salinity Readings: The refractometer's PPT scale accurately reads the absolute salinity of seawater, offering precise results without needing to apply a temperature compensation factor.
Importance of Temperature Compensation
- Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): The integrated ATC feature accounts for small temperature variations between the refractometer and the water sample, ensuring precise readings.
- Impact of Temperature on Salinity: Refractive indexes of liquids change with temperature, which affects salinity readings. By compensating for these variations, ATC provides consistent and reliable results.
