Activated Carbon for 28g Nano Cube

The Activated Carbon for 28g Nano Cube is the perfect replacement for your 28g Nano Cube. If you need replacement activated carbon for your 6G to 28G JBJ Nano Cube aquarium, We have it right here. It works well in both freshwater and saltwater tanks. You should replace carbon about once a month to keep your aquarium water clean.

What is activated carbon?

Activated carbon is a carbonaceous material that manufacturers heat and treat at extremely high temperatures. This process creates tiny pores, which increase the surface area significantly. The tiny pores and large surface area allow the filter media to hold a huge amount of material, making it an excellent choice for removing pollutants from air and water.

What is the purpose of activated carbon?

The Activated Carbon for 28g Nano Cube effectively absorbs a wide variety of dissolved contaminants. These include chlorine and chloramine, tannins (which discolor the water), and phenols (which produce unpleasant odors). Additionally, it helps prevent aquarium water from turning yellow over time. However, it’s important to understand that activated carbon cannot remove every toxin. It cannot eliminate ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate. This means that during the aquarium setup process, you must rely on other methods or water changes to manage elevated ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate levels. Moreover, activated carbon can remove heavy metals like copper or lead. If your water source contains heavy metals, you should use a water treatment product before placing the water in the aquarium.

Placement in Filter

Activated carbon quickly loses effectiveness when exposed to large amounts of aquarium debris. Therefore, always place carbon after the mechanical filter media inside the filter. If you allow dirt to build up inside the filter, activated carbon will not work as effectively.

Changes in Carbon

As activated carbon bonds with the substances it removes, it eventually becomes saturated and loses the ability to absorb additional contaminants. For this reason, you should replace it regularly—usually once a month. While waiting longer between replacements won’t harm the tank, the carbon will become less effective at removing toxic substances from the water. If you notice yellowing water or an unpleasant odor in the tank, it’s time to change the activated carbon.
