Bold, bright, and easy to care for, the Spotfin Reef Butterfly has been named for the tiny black spot at its dorsal fin. Adults are white with bright caudal and pelvic fins that are yellow as well as a narrow yellow line from the gill up to the base of pectoral fins. A vibrant black vertical stripe on the top of the head is visible over the eye. Juveniles have an additional dark spot near the base of their anal fins. A dark streak extends to the tiny area on the dorsal. What sets apart the Chaetodon ocellatus is at night, the fish is transformed in a dramatic manner. The large, dark dorsal fin turns dark and broad, while dark bands are visible around the body. It can also occasionally swim upside down and squirt water as a fountain above the waterline. Spotfin Reef Butterfly is peaceful and is most often seen in shallow water around coral reefs on their own or in bonded pairs that form a lifetime relationship. They are most active during the day. They change colors and seek shelter to rest in the evening since they are incredibly vulnerable to predators larger than them. The tankmates are expected to be peaceful. Spotfin Butterflies should not be kept in an aquarium with a reef. These carnivores can be difficult to lure initially. To encourage eating, you can offer fresh, vitamin-rich brine shrimp, clams, and mashed squid and shrimp. When eating regularly, provide mysis shrimp as well as frozen carnivore recipes at least three times per day.   Approximate Purchase Size: Small 1-1/2" to 2" Medium 2" to 3 1/4" Large 3 1/4" to 4 1/2" X Large 4 1/2" to 6"
